Meridian by Matt DesLauriers

In 2022, Vetro was approached by generative artist Matt DesLauriers to publish his debut monograph, Meridian.

The book encapsulates his celebrated generative art project of the same name, originally released on Art Blocks in 2021.

Meridian marks DesLauriers’ first publication. It was designed by the award-winning creative studio monopo London, and presents the full breadth of the collection in print for the first time.

Bringing together expansive full-bleed imagery, reflective essays, and detailed technical breakdowns, the book offers comprehensive insight into both the visual language and the underlying systems that define the project. It stands as a legacy piece for DesLauriers’ practice and for the collectors and enthusiasts who have followed Meridian since its inception

About the book

Early conversations between Vetro and DesLauriers established the intention from the outset: to create a beautiful object designed to be experienced through touch as much as sight.

Particular attention was given to materials and production, with two different high-spec paper stocks for the internal pages, a textured cover, belly band, and refined finishing that included gold hot foiling.

Richly printed artworks unfold across large-format spreads, with each copy also including a specially produced, signed risoprint and set of stickers.

The first edition was released with four distinct front covers which showcase the variation of the algorithmic process. Together, these elements transformed the book into a highly collectible art object.

Meridian launched at StolenSpace Gallery alongside a generative art exhibition, bringing the digital works into dialogue with both print and physical space. The first edition sold out rapidly, and a second edition, with a new, distinctive cover is now available.

Vetro's role in the project

As publisher, Vetro guided Meridian from first conversation to finished, distributed object — bringing the publishing and production expertise that turns a digital-native practice into a lasting printed work.

Working closely with monopo London, Vetro shaped the editorial strategy and held the overall vision while advising the artist and the design studio on the directions that would best serve the work.

That contribution was most decisive in the making: counsel on the life and craft of the book, definition of materials and specifications, sourcing of the high-spec paper stocks, and management of the technical relationship with the printer to realise the finishing — the foiling, textured cover, and different paper stocks — at the level the project demanded.

The result was a book that honours the precision of DesLauriers' code in physical form, and a collaboration that confirmed Vetro's role at the centre of generative-art publishing.
